My friend Rachel is traveling the world doing all kinds of crazy things, and you can see her wordpres travel blog here.  The problem is, she’s got no pics in her posts!

So she needed to know how to post pictures from her flickr.com account into her blog posts on wordpress.com

Here goes:

Adding a Flickr Photo to a Post on Wordpress.com

  • Rachel Glueck
Dude, you are a wonderful human being. That was the clearest explanation I've ever been given on how do do something online. Most instructions you find onine are written by IT nerds for IT nerds (forgetting that the average human being's computer vocab doesn't extend beyond the words "email" and "link"). Thank you!!
Now go look at my photos! http://hongkongrachel.wordpress.com/
    Yea!!
  • My pleasure, I'm an IT nerd undercover as an average human :-)
    Look forward to the pics!
  • I always load flickr pics on my server to reduce possibilities of users taking them down but this is a great tutorial for people who want to learn
  • Cool, so if you're linking to a picture on flickr thats licensed under
creative commons (aka, anyone can use it as long as they appropriately
mention the source), you actually download a copy and upload it to your
server, so that you'll always have the pic available?
Great idea for power users that want to make sure their site looks good long
    term!

The tutorial was for a friend using wordpress.com and didnt have enough
hosting space on their servers for the pics.
  • Yes exactly - always with attribution.

Why they do not make an easy grab link to attribute back like "PictureXYZ by
    User123" is beyond me...
  • Does Zemanta help with this? Do they search through creative commons,
suggest photos, and help reference them? Could be a cool idea...
  • Yes, they do this today as well as with other DBs that offer similar
licensing - like CrunchBase and Wikipedia.

It is always a very easy photo implementation option - but this is of course
    my biased view.
  • Well, its been on my list of things to do, but it hasnt been a priority
until I started picking up my posting frequency.
I'll definitely check it out, and I'll see if i can convince my newbie
blogger friend to give it a look!
  • Hey Evan,

It was great meeting you this Saturday. I was just checking out your blog and saw this post and wanted to point out that you can do this much more easily with Apture - if you know the photo you want to link just copy the url of the flickr page (no need to get the actual image url) , go to your blog, click the Apture embed button and paste the url in and click create embed - done. And if you don't have the image yet you can search it right there to.

    Best,
    Can
  • I've been meaning to check that out :-) thanks for the nudge.
P.S. where you working on the kiva wordpress plugin? can you direct
message me on twitter (@evbart), would love to follow up on that via email
  • We would love to see more pictures of this blog and we will support it anyway we can as much i have supported my guide wich is LastMinuteTravel .
  • That problem is normal to those who are new in wordpress and uploading images in their blog using wordpress. Eric was really right.
  • Its really cool, I came to know this really worth visiting, just bookmarked your site.

  • Putting some images in a blog can make your blog more beautiful. So many bloggers or writers are putting related pictures in their blogs.
